I achieved that dream inshortly after moving to sunny So-Cal. This car became my personal mode of transportation other than the bmw streetcarver and shortly after purchasing it, adding personal touches that made it uniquely mine.The automobile featured in this article is a great looking Dodge Coronet Lancer Coupe.
One of the interesting facts about the Coronet model was that it began as the highest trim line from Dodge in and then beginning in became the lowest trim line. The Dodge Coronet was among the fourth generation Coronets. The Dodges had basic mechanicals similar to the De Soto, but featured special styling. Styling for was very similar to that of with only small changes. These models used the same turret as some Desotos, but had a special body style of their own. All were to a high degree similar, but with different trim lines and features.
The Dodge Coronet was the base model. They also had a different rear bumper bar which had little rubber stoppers on the corners. So very different than when the Coronet had been the shining top Dodge model from to Beginning in and to the Coronet became an intermediate size car.
This new model had a muscle car image and as much power as a V8 Hemi could deliver. The grille and headlights were the most significant changes for the Dodge Coronet for The headlights were now quad units. The top of the line engine was the cubic-inch V8 with fuel-injection which was capable of an astonishing horsepower. Huge fins, plenty of chrome, and some good options make this a good looking Dodge.
Since the Dodge Coronet was considered the base model, most were equipped with inline-six engines. Brakes were four wheel hydraulic drum. The spacious cabin is The Dodge Coronet is a reasonably valued collector car. This of course also depends a lot on overall condition and degree of restoration. As mentioned above, the Dodge Coronet itself went from a top of the line car to eventually the lowest trim model.
These values appear to hold true for the two higher trim lines with maybe a few thousand dollars more for the higher trims. Most cars had four or six cylinders; spending some extra time and money on building a better V8 made sense. Chrysler had not counted on just how popular the V8 would be, or how much it would drive sales. It took little time for Chrysler to realize their mistake, and the engineers quickly got to work on dropping costs and increasing output.
Their first move was to creating a cheaper and lighter head and valvetrain, for the same engine blocks. To make the change, they put the intake valves on the top of the rocker arm and the exhaust valves on the bottom.
The results were lower cost, less weight, and higher production; the cost was a slight loss of efficiency. Poly head design on left; wedge head design on right. The heads had canted valves in a cross-flow arrangement, gaining some of the advantage of the hemis, but much less expensive to make this design would make a comeback in the 4.

The engine was available in both Hemi and Poly form; with four barrel carburetors, the Hemi produced horsepower, and the Poly just Still, the Poly was much cheaper and lighter, and the company could make larger engines to replace the lost power.
The bottom of the valve covers were scalloped so the spark plugs were accessible from the top — unlike Ford and Chevrolet V8s, whose owners had to reach under hot exhaust manifolds to get at the spark plugs. Randy Hicks wrote that the cylinder heads and intake manifolds were interchangeable with any Hemi engines that had the same deck height. Most used a two-barrel carburetor, because the Hemi was the performance engine.

The Chrysler Corporation also shipped out all of these trim items individually to dealers so the dealers could "freshen up" the cars sitting on their lots. Dealer-installed spring specials often include some elements of the factory spring special trim, but not always all.
Dodge Power Wagon
Unrelated to spring specials, Dodge changed the headlight trim midway through the production run. Later cars have a wide lower edge to the headlight trim while early cars have a thin lower edge.
Trying to boost sales, the Regal Lancer model was added in February and only available as a two-door hardtop with special colors, exterior trim and interior. Four color combinations where available: bronze with white trim, bronze with black trim, black with bronze trim, and white with bronze trim.
It featured special nameplates at the front of the side spear trim and heavy eyebrow trim. Inside, Regal Lancers got their own interior with unique trim and door panels featuring molded armrests. A bronze instrument panel with textured aluminum inserts was a Regal Lancer exclusive. Optional engine choices were the cubic inch displacement D and Super D iterations.
Only 1, were produced. The Suburban was Dodge's two-door station wagon in All station wagons came standard with the Ram Fire engine. The entry level four-door station wagon in was the Sierra. From the exterior the nine-passenger configuration can be easily identified by the spare tire panel behind the rear wheel opening and the rubber step-spots on the rear bumper.

The Custom Royal was the top of the line. Even in its base configuration, the Custom Royal was a special car. It came standard with the Super Red Ram V8. The is a big block engine in size, but a small block in cubes. The engine came out of the factory with 10 to 1 compression and a mighty brake horsepower gross in its four barrel version.
The Canadian version used a Poly. From its fully machined crank to its raised single plane manifold, this engine was made to rock. It came standard with a two barrel WW series downdraft carburetor, which was okay but it needed a bit more throat; an optional four barrel version complemented the engine better.
Another other engine option, coded D, was a V8 with a 4 barrel carb, very similar to the The Dodge workshop manual refers to this engine as a a later, completely different muddied the waters somewhat. It came with a dual contact distributor, and was said to produce horsepower.
Just a dozen Dodges were sold with a new Bendix electronic fuel injection system ; the cars were recalled and carburetors were put in. The majority of and Facel Vegasthe French cars with Dodge running gear, had D engines and boasted a top speed of mph. The Custom Royal also had great deal more chrome work and included the trickiest exhaust tips I have ever seen. They bolted to the rear bumper and had little louvres on them; they are quite rare.
Most vehicles came out of the factory as two tones, I have seen red and white, blue and white, black and white and dark green and light green.
In fact, the Custom Royal is a rare sight on the roads of Australia. I have been told that there were only hundred factory RHD vehicles exported to Australia from America.These trucks featured conventional cabs and front sheet metal and the cargo boxes used on the 2WD models. This particular truck is a W model, and is one of 1, W Power Wagons built for Overall, this truck is dry and solid, but not completely straight; the hood looks to be misaligned, and the grille bars look to have been bent at some point in its life. The wood bed is also completely rotted, and the wood-bed tie downs will need to be replaced. Otherwise, the truck is solid and fairly complete, needing only a new wood bed floor, headlights and taillights, and comes with a period-correct front-mount winch.

I would restore this truck similar to this onebut with the heavy duty bumper. Though Power Wagons usually came with a six-cylinder, this one is factory equipped with the rare wide-block V8.
One of built forthis truck features a cubic inch V8 rated at horsepower and is backed by a column-shift three-speed manual transmission. The seller makes no mention of whether or not the engine runs, but most likely it has not run for a while. Inside, the seat is in tatters, with very little upholstery left on it; the seat appears to have been upholstered in white or gray. Otherwise, the rest of the interior appears to be solid and complete, and would look cool restored in blue with a gray or white seat. I dig the floor shifter, as well as the column-mounted four-wheel drive system.
The engine-turned gauge surround also adds an aggressive look, and reminds me of the gauge cluster surround in a s Pontiac Trans Ams. Though this truck is going to need a full restoration, it is a rare piece of machinery and almost everything is here. I would love to see this truck at a car show or cruise-in.
What are your thoughts on this rare V8-equipped W Power Wagon? Apparently, this person has a bunch of old trucks. The only thing this has going for it, is it is so rare. Dodge always played 2nd fiddle to Ford and Chevy. Not sure why, they were every bit as good. Dodge pickups were not very popular, much less 4wd ones. While the purists will scream bloody murder, the best thing for this, is drop it on a modern chassis.
